Alexander Melman M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Alexander Melman joined our surgical group in 1987. He completed his surgical residency at Staten Island University Hospital in New York, where he served as a chief resident. Subsequently he completed his Fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Melman is a board-certified general surgeon who also specializes in vascular surgery, particularly small vessel bypasses, as well as carotid and aortic surgery and hemo-dialysis access as well as varicose veins surgery. He performs a variety of general surgical procedures, including open and laparoscopic procedures for gallbladder disease, hernias, diverticulitis and colon cancer. He has a special interest in chronic wound management. He is the Assistant Director of Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip and has been a member of the Medical Board at Good Samaritan Hospital for nine years. He is also on staff at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore and St Catherine’s Medical Center in Smithtown where he is Director of the Wound Care Center. He is Assistant Professor of Surgery at Hofstra Medical School and NYSOM. He is a Fellow of the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Melman is a member of New York State Medical Society, Suffolk County Medical Society, International Society of Vascular Surgeons and a Fellow of American Professional Wound Care Association.
